KG Engineering
Foundation Concrete Repair
Concrete & Structural Engineering Services
We provide concrete and structural engineering focused on efficiency, risk reduction, and buildability. Our services include cast-in-place and post-tensioned concrete framing, optimized slab systems, shear walls, transfer structures, and foundations designed to align with site conditions and construction strategy.
We support developers with early-stage structural input, value engineering options, and framing layouts that improve repetition and reduce congestion. Our expertise also includes seismic and anchorage design for piping systems, equipment, and non-structural components to ensure full building compliance and coordination.
During construction, we provide responsive shop drawing review, timely RFI responses, and practical field solutions to help keep projects on schedule and within budget.

Shear wall and core layouts coordinated with architectural planning
Transfer beams, transfer slabs, and podium structures
Foundations aligned with geotechnical recommendations
Structural Performance & Seismic Design
Gravity and lateral system analysis (wind and seismic)
Seismic force-resisting system design
Seismic design of non-structural components
Serviceability control (deflection, cracking, long-term performance)
Punching shear verification and detailing strategy
Historic Structure Restoration
Toronto has a significant inventory of heritage and older masonry buildings, many of which need structural work to remain safe and functional. We approach historic structure restoration with an understanding that the goal is to preserve the building's character while addressing real structural concerns.
We will design and work within the constraints of existing materials, original construction methods, and heritage designation requirements. Our restoration work includes masonry repointing design, lintel and arch repair, timber floor and roof system rehabilitation, and foundation stabilization for buildings that have settled or shifted over decades.
Renovation & Structural Modifications
Capacity verification of existing concrete structures
Creation of new openings in slabs and walls
Structural strengthening and localized upgrades
Foundation underpinning and structural alterations
Construction Phase Support
Rebar and anchor shop drawing review
Timely RFI responses and field sketches
Site visits at critical structural milestones
Seismic Retrofitting
Toronto sits in a moderate seismic zone under the Ontario Building Code, and many older buildings across the city were designed to previous code editions with lower seismic force requirements. When these buildings undergo a change of use, major renovation, or when an owner wants to reduce their seismic risk, we design retrofit solutions that bring lateral force resistance up to current code standards.
This can involve adding shear walls, braced frames, foundation tie-downs, or strengthening existing connections that would fail under the updated seismic demands. Each retrofit starts with a seismic evaluation of the existing structure to identify where the deficiencies actually are.
Anchorage & Non-Structural Component Design
Seismic anchorage design for piping systems
Expansion compensator anchorage and thrust restraint design
Equipment anchorage (mechanical, electrical, rooftop units)
Embedded plate and anchor rod design
Post-installed anchor design (adhesive and mechanical)
Coordination of seismic restraint systems with MEP trades
Cost-Conscious Engineering & Constructability
Framing layouts optimized for constructability and repetition
Rebar congestion reduction strategies
Early-stage structural input during concept and design development
Value engineering without compromising structural performance
We treat each project as an integrated system rather than isolated drawings. By combining design expertise with construction awareness and regulatory experience, we reduce risk, prevent delays, and deliver clear structural solutions from start to finish.
Our Approach
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) -
KG Engineering provides structural and mechanical engineering services for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Our work includes new construction, additions, renovations, tenant improvements, equipment support, structural modifications, and other project-specific engineering services.
-
Yes. We prepare engineering drawings and supporting documentation for permit submission and can assist throughout the permitting process. This may include sealed drawings, design notes, responses to reviewer comments, and coordination required to support approval by the applicable authority having jurisdiction.
-
Our structural engineering services include structural design, analysis, assessment, and review for a wide range of projects. This may include foundations, slabs, beams, columns, lintels, stairs, guards, platforms, equipment support structures, and alterations to existing buildings or structural systems.
-
Our mechanical engineering services include HVAC design, plumbing design, mechanical system layouts, equipment coordination, and permit-related mechanical documentation. We support residential, commercial, and industrial projects with practical and code-compliant engineering solutions tailored to the specific needs of each project.
